I have heard excellent reports about SAGA insurance Tell, they always seem to be highly thought of.
Re: motorhome insurance companies add on
I don't know if any of you have been looking on MHF, but theres a person on there who has there van stolen whilst its been in the garage having work done. Thing is it seems that a lot of insurers are not covering our vehicles whilst they are in the garage, and the garages aren't covering them either! I'm with caravanguard at the moment, and they do cover my van if its elsewhere, but it could be worth checking when getting your quote!

The add-ons with Safeguard do you mean Recovery (Europe cover). Safeguard cover if in a garage as well. We are with Safeguard and ours was £456 so am expecting a shock in November. Ours went up £200 from the Hymer but this van was worth nearly double so that accounts for it. We too are too young for Saga - so solleee.

Saga the cheapest at £296
We went with Saga for one year, £421 for two cars and a m/h with euro cover brilliant we thought until we came to renew, it went up too over £740, it was a new customer quote the first year so when they got you they hike the price.
So went back to Safeguard and yes I know its not the cheapest but for £435 with full euro cover for a £54000 m/h isn't bad, and for us the customer service side is the best we have had from anyone else.
Must admit I will be doing a Leapy next year and shopping around for the best deal but bearing in mind the quality of the cover (reading the small print).

Re: motorhome insurance companies add on
We work for Equity Redstar Insurance and we attend motorhomes on their behalf. I thought I would approach them for a quote when I had the Kontiki and was pleasantly surprised - especially when the quote included breakdown and recovery.
Didn't insure Voyager with them because I didn't think I required the breakdown policy but am going back to them in September for a quote. Our experience from the other side is that claims are handled swiftly e.g. incident on a Saturday claims assessor visits vehicle on the Monday.
With regards the stolen motorhome on MHF the garage insurance company is responsible for payout. That is why our trade insurance is so expensive - insured for £5million + on customer vehicles.

Hi,
Recently renewed with SAGA this will be our second year, there quote was quiet high this time so as usual I had a ring around and got some very good quotes so I went back to SAGA and explained the situation and after a very short negotiation they not only matched the other quotes but also included free Legal protection insurance, which I thought was a really good deal, so I renewed with them (I'm over 50).
I was with Safeguard for several years with no problems, but when I decided to go with ADAC for my breakdown cover, safeguard wouldn't sell the insurance without their own breakdown cover included so were to expensive, after sometime I found that Swinton also have another arm that provided motorhome insurance without the breakdown cover included, but I can't remember there name at the moment.
So SAGA for another year.

Re: motorhome insurance companies add on
On recommendation of Jan (Elldwin) we eventually got in touch with Comfort and bought our insurance through them, it is with Aviva. They gave us the option of having RAC European Breakdown if we wanted it. As we only plan a short trip to Delft this year, we declined that one.
This policy was about half the price of the other companies quotes

Hi Tugga- just a point -did you check that Comfort will cover full cost of windscreen replacement??
They have been removed from list of recommended insurers for Carthago as they will not cover full screen replacement- cost up to £5000 for mine!!!!

Hi,
I must admit we always ring around at or just before renewal time, and try to check at least 4 companies sometimes more, as that old word Loyalty just doesn't exist anymore, and it always seems like a lottery as one company that is low priced for one person can be the highest for another with no obvious reason.
So always ring around,

Hi Pete
I have looked at my policy and it says that the windscreen and glass is covered upto £3000 in any one claim with a £75 excess. Lets just hope that our windscreen is a bit smaller than yours and this will cover it. Never noticed that before and as we have only just got the m/h it is something to consider in the future. Re: motorhome insurance companies add on
I insured the Voyager with Comfort in September 2009. Everything was ok until renewal September 2010 when they phoned me and asked for payment there and then for the Voyager.
Told them I was picking up new Apache in a few days and would run the Voyager on the business insurance. Was told in no uncertain terms that I had to insure the Voyager then they would switch the insurance to the Apache when I picked it up and they would charge me a considerable admin fee for the privilege!
Told em where to go and insured Apache elsewhere.

Re: motorhome insurance companies add on
Hi all,
We were with Equity Red Star through RHS, and have been happy with them, especially during our troubled times abroad in 2007 and 2008, (a long story).
This time however, they were hugely expensive, and Tony Santara put me onto the NFU, whom he and Ruth insures their RV with.
Because the MH is covered for European breakdown through the CSMA, (so didn't need theirs), our premium with NFU was almost halved, and that included unlimited windscreen cover, which is needed on any A Class MH, due to the unusual shapes and sizes of screens.
I hope this is of help to someone.
Cheers for now,
Jock.
