Security Peugot Boxer

Post  robbo on Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:12 am

Hi All

my first log-on to this site -- I'm hoping to take my motorhome abroad for the first time this year and I'm concerned about security with regard to break in's. Anyone recommend or advise me re fitting additional locks or devices to the cab & habitation doors on my 2001 Autosleeper on a Peugeot Boxer base.

best wishes

Robbo

I have nothing at all on mine but we don't leave it unless it's parked on a campsite or an Aire amongst other vans. usually plenty of Brits and we always strike a conversation and watch out for each other. I think any amount of security is not worth the money if it's parked in the back of beyond.

AND welcome Very Happy

My personal opinion is don't waste your money, if they want to get in they will and it will mean causing more damage, lets face it, we could all open a side window in seconds, I have a fiamma door lock on the hab door but it was there when I bought the van, I wouldn't put one on. For the cab doors I just put the seat belts through the door handles then plug them into the buckle, you can't open the door then, won't stop them breaking the window Shocked
I do this when we are in it, my thinking is, if they want to get in the van when we are sleeping they will go through the door, little noise made and I wouldn't hear them (dogs would though Very Happy ) I would hear a window smash.
I'd personally fit an alarm system than security locks

Robbo, don't waste your money on on extra security just use your sensible head when parking up and leaving the m/h. A good alarm is ok as it will alert people in the vicinity if anyone breaks in, whether anyone reacts is another matter.

Do not forget all (most) m/hs have plastic windows and retaining clips so a forced entry will not be a problem if anyone want your pride and joy or its contents.

Do not leave valuables around in view, take passports and cash with you or get a good floor safe and secure it well. With some thought you will be safe and enjoy your first trip.

Hi Robbo

Welcome to Roamers. hello

We do not have any extra security devices fitted to our van, but we have fitted an AlKo safe so we can keep valuables like Bob has said in it. We haven't been to France in it yet, but we are hoping to go in June/July.

Just remember, if it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't Very Happy

hello to the forum. I always thought you make it as difficult as you can for the criminal. Well, I have a fiamma door lock out side and a sash lock inside that just flicks over to lock. I have a wire tow rope that doubles as a security device by threading through the door handles if needed, but I have to say I have never used it, and of course the attitude adjuster as a last resort.
